Job Vacancy – Policy Research Officer
The Australian Embassy in Amman is seeking an energetic, pro-active and service-focussed person to work in the Embassy’s Policy section, to commence as soon as possible.
Duties
• Collate and analyse information on Jordan’s political system, social and economic policies and regional relations.
• Prepare analytical reporting on political, social and economic developments in Jordan and the region that affect Australia’s interests.
• Develop and maintain a useful network of contacts, and build good working relationships with local media to promote Australian interests.
• Manage post’s Direct Aid Program: assess bids and provide recommendations on funding allocation; undertake site visits; evaluate projects; and prepare periodic reporting.
• Manage visits of Australian officials to Jordan.
• Other duties as required, including translation and interpreting if the candidate possesses these abilities.
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualities:
Essential:
1. Advanced verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to represent the Australian Embassy as required.
2. The ability to provide high quality analysis of political and economic developments, and assess implications for Australia.
3. High quality organisational skills, and the ability to successfully manage a visit program.
4. A well-developed ability to administer a program of development assistance activities that advance Australia’s interests.
5. A high degree of flexibility and responsibility, and the ability to work effectively as a team member.
Desirable:
6. Arabic language skills are desirable, but not essential, for this position.
7. An Australian Government security clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
