Job Vacancy – Humanitarian Officer


The Australian Embassy in Amman is seeking an energetic, proactive and service-focussed person to assist in the management of Australia’s humanitarian support for Syrian refugees and host communities.


Duties:
1. As required, represent Australia in relevant meetings and build effective relationships with key humanitarian actors, including the UN.

2. Collate, analyse and report on the challenges faced by Syrian refugees in Jordan and the impact on host communities.

3. Identify gaps in assistance and develop forward-looking recommendations for Australian funding.

4. Ensure Australia’s assistance is implemented in coordination with all relevant actors, including the Jordanian Government, UN agencies, NGOs and other donors.

5. Recommend an appropriate approach to highlighting Australia’s assistance in Jordan.

6. Monitor and advise on the effectiveness of Australia’s humanitarian support in Jordan.

7. Provide regular reporting on developments relating to the Syrian humanitarian response and Australia’s support.

8. Manage visits by officials and manage elements of VIP visits relating to Australia’s humanitarian assistance in Jordan.

9. Other duties as required

 Selection Criteria:
The successful candidate will demonstrate:

1. Advanced analytical and report writing skills.

2. Excellent written and communication skills, and fluency in English.

3. Highly developed negotiation skills, excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to represent Australia’s interests.

4. Development/aid experience or a well developed ability to implement assistance programs would be an advantage.

5. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan strategically.

6. A high level of flexibility and responsibility, and the ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.

7. An Australian security clearance or the ability to obtain a clearance is highly desirable.

Salary will be based on skills and experience. All new staff are employed on a fixed term contract basis, and will be initially engaged for a three month probationary period.
