Expected Vacancy –Visa Processing Officer (VPO)

The Immigration and Citizenship Section of the Australian Embassy, Amman is seeking skilled and energetic people with a strong client service focus to take up expected positions as Visa Processing Officers (VPO). VPOs work under the direction of a Team Leader or Manager and are responsible for delivering client service and assessing and/or deciding on the outcome of visa applications where appropriate. The role involves undertaking verifications and checks and assisting with investigations into visa applications.
VPOs are expected to work with limited supervision and will demonstrate high levels of judgement and initiative. VPOs will have the ability to provide reliable and informed advice both internally and to clients and other external stakeholders. VPOs will have proven organisational abilities and successful workload management skills. VPOs are expected to deliver in a high pressure environment of tight deadlines and competing priorities while continuing to maintain high levels of customer service and personal integrity.
There are several permanent (contract) positions as well as some temporary positions available. These applications may be used should further vacancies arise in the next 3 months.
Roles & Responsibilities
VPOs have a broad set of responsibilities. Duties may include but are not limited to:
• Process, assess and decide applications for visas and citizenship in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures
• Respond to client enquiries via phone, email or in person
• Interview clients and where necessary request additional information to support an application
• Consider integrity and risk in decision making, including:
Maintaining knowledge of risk profiles and indicators in the relevant caseload
Identify and report integrity concerns and trends
Participate in integrity support activities
• Write case notes, assessments, decision records and correspondence
• Appropriate use of DIAC systems to:
Process applications
Manage caseloads
Record data
• Assist with interpretation, translation and documentation checks
• Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced officers.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above the VPO will be required to undertake ad hoc duties as directed by a team leader or manager from time to time.
Selection Criteria
• Demonstrated ability to investigate and use information from various sources and to apply research and analytical skills to problems involving ambiguity or uncertainty in order to reach a well-founded conclusion or decision.
• Demonstrated initiative in building rapport with clients and colleagues and liaises effectively through internal and external networks
• Demonstrated ability to explain technical and complex information clearly and to communicate effectively in a range of situations.
• Demonstrated ability to actively progress work and achieve team and individual objectives
