VACANCY: SENIOR VISA OFFICERS (TEAM LEADERS), AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY, AMMAN

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) Section of the Australian Embassy, Amman, has several full-time vacancies Senior Visa Officer (team leader) positions available for an immediate start. The positions will be filled on a 12 month contract basis with the possibility of extension, depending upon operational needs, in line with the conditions of employment applicable to locally engaged staff. Proficiency in Arabic is preferred but not essential.

The successful applicants will manage small teams working in the refugee, family migration, temporary entry and administration fields. The team leader of the administration team will supervise the Client Contact Unit and oversee the day-to-day running of the out-sourced Visa Application Centre. Team leaders may also be expected to exercise delegations in granting and refusing visa applications. Team leaders may be rotated between teams subject to management discretion.

Successful candidates will be responsible for their own transfer and ongoing costs associated with working in Jordan. If required, the Embassy will provide successful candidates with a letter to assist in obtaining an appropriate work visa for Jordan.

Position description

1. Supervise and manage a small team of officers providing direct client service to clients including staff processing visa applications.
2. Follow administrative and lawful procedures and apply legislation in interviewing clients and in making determinations on temporary visa applications.
3. Prepare correspondence including emails and letters, high quality decision records and reports.
4. Provide quality advice and service to clients in a culturally diverse environment.
5. Identify issues of integrity concern and appropriately refer cases to the Integrity Unit and/or senior staff.
6. Provide advice and support to local staff members in relation to complex cases and assist to manage workflow.
7. Undertake other duties or projects as operational demands require.
8. Duties may also include managing the Visa Application Centre contract and provide support/training to Visa Application Centre staff.
