Expected Vacancy – Assistant Visa Officer (AVO)

The Immigration and Citizenship Section of the Australian Embassy, Amman is seeking skilled and energetic people with a strong client service focus to take up expected positions as Assistant Visa Officers (AVO). The successful applicants will work to a local supervisor, assisting with the management and delivery of a component of the Australian Government’s visa programs or form part of a client service team that manages client contact and telephone, email and fax inquiries.
All staff are employed on a fixed-term contract basis and will be initially engaged for a three-month probationary period. The positions are expected to be available from November 2012.
Position description
The key role of LE4 officers in DIAC is to provide administrative support in the various teams in order to ensure Amman meets performance standards in client service excellence, efficiency and integrity for visitor, student, and temporary residence, humanitarian and family visas.
People working at the LE4 level are required to:
• Respond to enquiries from clients, including enquiries of some complexity, and provide information and advice
• Undertake a wide range of more complex operational and administrative processing tasks including exercising delegations in accordance with appropriate legislation, policy and procedures; developing and maintaining registers; assisting with tasks of a specialised nature
• Under direction, undertake less complex research and analysis activities, such as compiling and reporting on data and statistics
• Liaise with departmental staff, clients and external agencies/organisations on matters relating to work tasks
• Use judgement in interpreting and analysing issues and considering options and alternatives
• Prepare routine correspondence and assist with the preparation of more complex correspondence, reports and documentation
• Work in a team environment, assist with team tasks and provide advice and guidance to new staff, including effective on the job training
• Contribute to reviews of work practices and procedures, including providing advice on the efficient and effective delivery of services
• Manage a varied workload
