The Immigration and Citizenship Section of the Australian Embassy, Amman is seeking skilled and energetic people with a strong client service focus to take up expected positions as Assistant Visa Officers (AVO). The successful applicants will work to a local supervisor, assisting with the management and delivery of a component of the Australian Government’s visa programs or form part of a client service team that manages client contact and telephone, email and fax inquiries.

There are several permanent (contract) positions as well as some temporary (casual) positions available. These applications may be used should further vacancies arise in the next 3 months.

Roles & Responsibilities

AVOs have a broad set of responsibilities. Duties may include but are not limited to:
• Respond to client enquiries either by phone, email or in person and escalate complex matters where required
• Accurately record data for visa or citizenship application processing and / or integrity analysis
• Register correspondence and documentation received at post
• Assemble and maintain file records and ensure data integrity in electronic systems
• Provide administrative support to visa decision makers
• Undertake verification checks of documentation lodged by visa applicants, including telephone checks and sending correspondence as required
• Responsibilities may extend to conducting some banking activities and maintaining registers of centrally controlled and accessed items
• Prepare replies to incoming correspondence, in line with agreed formats
• Perform various other administrative duties


In addition to the responsibilities listed above AVOs will be required to undertake ad hoc duties as directed by Team Leaders and Post Management from time to time.


Selection Criteria:

• Demonstrated ability to contribute to planning activities to improve efficiencies within the work area.
• Demonstrated capacity to work individually and show initiative, as well as actively contribute to a team.
• Demonstrated ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders on a range of routine work matters.
• Demonstrated capacity to respond to and manage client enquiries and direct more complex enquiries to appropriate areas.

Please note that a high level of competency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required for this position. There will be an English proficiency test for those who may be considered for the positions.
